Tihitna Gezahegn Mulugeta

Tihitna is a master's student in Environmental Engineering at the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of North Dakota (UND). In 2017, she earned a B.Sc. degree in Civil Engineering from Haramaya University, Ethiopia.
Before joining UND, she had been working on her MSc research in Environmental Engineering at the University of Trento, Italy, in 2023. Her research was focused on the Planning of Nature-Based Solutions for Urban Stormwater Management. Employing dynamic hydrology-hydraulic modeling, she evaluated the performance of Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) scenarios in mitigating pluvial flood risks, particularly during extreme storm events. In her professional journey, Tihitna has served as an Assistant Researcher at the Technology and Innovation Institute. Before this role, she contributed her expertise as a Research and Development Analyst at the Science and Technology Information Center (STIC) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Her research interests include nature-based solutions for urban water quantity and quality, as well as hydrology. Her current focus at UND is on the Removal of PFAS on IX resin with pilot and RSSCTs systems.

Beyond her academic and professional pursuits, Tihitna takes pleasure in reading, discovering new locations, and engaging in social interactions.
